You Don’t Have to Love It Forever – Just Long Enough
When I launched HR@Heart Consulting Inc., I thought I had to get everything right the first time.
I offered 1:1 coaching because I loved it, supporting HR professionals through burnout, helping them navigate difficult conversations, and finding their way back to joy in their careers.
But I also offered recruitment services.
Now, let me be honest: I never loved recruitment.
I’m that HR pro who couldn’t just skim a resume and reject it without feeling something. I’d want to rewrite a candidate’s CV, give them tips, or even coach them before their interview. Recruitment demanded emotional labor I couldn’t sustain. But in those early days, it was consistent income. And it gave me time to build what I really wanted.
Growth Looks Like Change
We put so much pressure on ourselves to figure it all out before we begin. To define our brand, our services, our pricing, and our niche. But the truth is:
You don’t have to love every part of what you do forever.
You just need to love it long enough to learn from it.
As I worked with clients, delivered workshops, and listened to feedback, my services began to shift. Slowly but surely, I started leaning fully into the areas that truly energized me:
1:1, group, and corporate coaching for HR professionals navigating burnout, compassion fatigue, and career crossroads.
Learning & development design that helped teams grow and communicate better
Building engagement and wellness strategies that center people first.
Hosting HR retreats and events that provided safe spaces for HR to breathe, reset, and reconnect with purpose.

It didn’t happen overnight. But the more I aligned my services with my joy and values, the more doors opened. Better clients. Better collaborations. Better results.
And yes, better income too.
When It Pays But Drains
There were moments when recruitment was still making me money, and I had to decide whether to continue or stop.
That’s the hard part of entrepreneurship that not enough people talk about. Letting go of something that works financially but no longer fits spiritually.
I had to trust that the work aligned with my values would eventually catch up to the bills. And it did. Not instantly, but it did.
If you’re in a similar space, offering something you don’t love because it’s paying the bills, this is your permission to start planning your pivot.
Three Things to Remember About Pivoting
1. Everything is Data
Every client, every contract, every gut feeling is information. What lights you up? What drains you? What brings repeat business without burning you out?
Let it guide your next steps.
2. You’re Allowed to Outgrow Services
The thing that launched your business doesn’t have to be the thing that sustains it. Growth means you get to change.
3. Keep Checking In
I do a quarterly business review with myself. Nothing fancy. Just me, a notebook, and three questions:
What’s working?
What’s not?
What’s next?
The most important voice in your business is your own. Don’t ignore it.
Your Prompt
What part of your current work no longer aligns with the person you’re becoming?
You don’t need to make a dramatic exit or rebrand overnight. You just need to acknowledge what needs to shift and take one small step in that direction.
It’s okay to change your mind. It’s ok to evolve. That’s the beauty of betting on yourself.
